MATTAN, MATTAN, my father’s voice was calling to me as I was contemplating on something that was moving slowly in the distance. I was struggling with my changing position in our family as my childhood urges were being replaced with the responsibility’s that are required to become a man and a priest.
My name Mattan was given to me by my father Jacob upon learning my mother was with child. I was conceived when my mother was well past the time most women gave birth so my father named me Mattan. Mattan in our Hebrew language is interpreted as gift. My father reminded me over and over, God gave you to me as a gift and my mother had often reminded me that God always has a purpose for His gifts and I should always pray for God to show me where this gift would be used for God’s will.
