The Darkness of Religion – Gospel.PUB

The Darkness of Religion

Not by Accident

The world did not come into existence with a loud bang in space but rather from the spoken word of God. There was not a dark hole of energy that exploded into a cascading chaos that stumbled into order but rather it was the intent and will of God that brought into existence all that we know and understand about the heavens and earth.

The most common explanation of how all we know about our environment came into existence was a dark and powerful mass of energy exploded by some unknown force. We who know the truth understand that it was light that was the beginning of all we experience, “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” (Gen 1:3)

So, what was the condition of our world before God shed His light on it? The words of God describes it as:

“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” (Gen 1:2)

God before He began His creative force established light. His light would consume the darkness and reveal the emptiness and how void life is without God exercising His power. The sun was not the source of this light but God Himself was the source of this light. We find in God’s word this truth:

“…God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” (1 Jn 1:5)

When God chose to create all we know and understand about our life and dwelling place He made His presence known by dispelling darkness by His arrival. The sun was yet to be created but the light of God’s righteousness separated day and night. There will be a time in the future that God will remove the sun and moon as “stand-ins” for His light.

We find, when God establishes His Heavenly Kingdom, He once again will be the source of light:

“And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.”(Rev 21:23)

Jesus made this statement, “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” (John 8:12) Just as the sun was not the power that brought this world into existence, religion is not the source of salvation.

Jesus holds the “light” that brings salvation. Religious activities are often the replacement for how salvation takes place. In the same way, the lies of how heaven and earth came about darken the truth of God from the masses of people’s religious activities that darken the “light” of our Saviour.

When church groups establish actions that must be performed by people to be made acceptable to God and His righteousness this does not bring people closer to God but will darken their understanding of the path to God’s mercy.

Baptism, acts of contrition, penance, sacrifice and any other religious activity does not place you in the favor of God. Jesus and Jesus alone is the power of God for salvation. The gospel of Jesus is the only hope that will dispel the darkness of religion.

Apostle Paul was not only the self-proclaimed “chief” of sinners (1 Ti 1:15) but was also a self-proclaimed leader of the Pharisees, the most religious institution that has ever existed. Paul, after experiencing the “light” of God, said:

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.” (Rom 1:16-17)

The Apostle Paul lived in the darkness of religion. He was taught and did teach that God’s power of redeeming a sinner was achieved by engaging in religious activities but when God’s light revealed the truth of the Saviour, Jesus the Christ, Paul said, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation.”

Have you seen the light of the Saviour? Are you trusting some religious teaching to have God’s favor in your life? God’s words to you today say “The just shall live by faith.” The teaching of God’s word to the world to dispel the darkness of sin is for you to repent of your sin and by faith trust in the “Gospel of Christ”. This and this alone is the “power of God unto salvation.”

Will you leave the darkness and enter into the light today? Call on the power of God in the name of Jesus and you will walk in the light of God.
