Living in Fear and Doubt – Gospel.PUB

Living in Fear and Doubt

The Moment of Doubt

Living in fear and doubt is not limited to just the weak and powerless. Moses was a great man of faith and was endowed with the power to open the Red Sea with a simple wooden staff. Yet we find in this man of faith, fear and doubt.

Moses, seeing the vastness of the responsibility he held in leading the people of God out of Egypt, said to God:

“The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month. Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?” (Num 11:21-22)

God then made this statement to Moses:

“Is the LORD'S hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.” (Num 11:23)

In a moment of doubt, Moses doubted God’s ability to keep His commitment to him and His people.

Living in doubt is living in fear. Moses trusted God after his experience at the burning bush. He faced the most powerful man and nation in the world and stood without fear of doubt when he said, “let my people go.” What happened to change the man of faith to a man of doubt?

Life happened. Moses, living out his faith journey, had become overwhelmed with the vastness of the mission and forgot that the God of creation was the originator of his mission and this same God would provide all that was needed to be successful.

Christian friend, are you overwhelmed by the journey your life has taken? Let me offer you hope that will give you relief of mind and soul. Jesus loves you! To you who are caught in the snags of sin and have fallen prey to the “wiles of the devil” (Eph. 6:11), remember the day you were loved by God and forgiven by the blood of Jesus. Remember the power of faith that moved the mountain of sin from your soul.

God is able to keep His promises to you. When the Apostle Paul was facing death, his faith was not shaken. He told Timothy:

“I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” (2 Ti 1:12)

God is able not just to keep you “against that day” but to provide for your every need. As followers of Jesus, we are assured that God will, “supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Php 4:19) If you are a follower of the Saviour and live by faith; the “riches in glory” is available by request.

Asking and receiving what we need as we complete our life’s mission requires faith. Jesus said, “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.” (Mat 21:22) We are also given this warning in God’s word:

“But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.” (Jas 1:6-7)

Are you living in faith? Are you petitioning God for His “riches” in doubt? To ask God and receive from Him your needs, you must do so in faith. Live in confidence that God will keep you. Live in faith and trust, not in doubt and fear for one simple reason, God loves you and has opened the “riches of glory” for your needs in this life journey.
