“Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed.” Jeremiah 17:14

The people of God need healing. The need for healing differs from person to person but we all need to be healed. There are many types of healing that are required in the lives of the followers of Jesus. Physical healing is often the focus of the prayers of the Saints and to pray for this is good. We are instructed in the scripture:

“Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.” (Jas 5:14)

Seeking medical care and prayer is a good way of addressing physical sickness. The need to be healed for psychological issues is addressed with prayer and clinical assistance. Spiritual healing is the sole prerogative of God. Only the “Great Physician” can heal the deadly effects of sin. The word of God gives us the understanding of the only way to address spiritual sickness:

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

Saved? Saved from what? Mankind has been infected with a genetic disease. This disease has been passed down through the generations of mankind and has affected everyone who possesses the genetic structure of the first man, Adam.

The scripture reveals this truth of contamination with these words:

“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” (Rom 5:12)

You, my friend, are numbered among the “all men that have sinned.”

You are sick with sin unless you have been healed by the “Great Physician.” In physical and psychological sickness we often “self-medicate” attempting to rid ourselves of the issues that plague us. Many times we turn to others for advice about how we are to approach our healing and sometimes we just try to wait out our physical and phychological sickness rather than to seek help from the medical providers.

You cannot “self-medicate” spiritual needs nor can you just “wait it out” hoping your spiritual sickness heals with time. Jesus is the only solution to spiritual sickness. Jesus was the only human born in God’s creation that was not tainted with the DNA of the “one man” Adam.

The Bible explains the conception of Jesus with these words:

“The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee (Mary), and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” (Luke 1:35)

God interrupted the genetic flaw in the DNA of the “first man” by “overshadowing” Mary. God did not physically change the genetic flaw but He sent the Holy Ghost to “overshadow” or rather God placed Mary in His presence and created in her genetic material that was not infected with the deadly virus of sin.

The end result of this “overshadowing” would bring into the world a perfect person who was not the son of the “one man” Adam but was the “Son of God.” Jesus and Jesus alone has the power to end the rule of sin and death in your life.

Religion is powerless to overthrow the effects of sin. Acts of contrition, penitence and sacrifice can not separate sin from your DNA. You are the seed of Adam and you have been infected with a spiritual disease that only the “Great Physician” can heal.

How did God make a way for your sin-sickness to be addressed and healed? Jesus Himself gives us the answer to this question. Jesus, explaining to Nicodemus how sin is cured, said:

“ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

The “Son of God” that was the product of the “overshadowing” of Mary was sent to end the power of sin and death. Jesus said to Nicodemus the “whosoever” of God’s creation could by faith believe in the gospel of Jesus and be granted everlasting life. So how does this sin cure of Jesus work?

The word of God makes the way to the spiritual healing of the Saviour clear with these words:

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Rom 10:9-10)

Are you sin-sick? Are you weary of religion and have been trying to “self-medicate” your sickness? God has made a way for you to be healed. If you will call on the name of Jesus you will be healed of your spiritual sickness and be welcomed into the Kingdom of God.
