Understanding God

There is coming a time when we will fully understand who and what God is. Until then, we are encouraged by God’s word with the promise of understanding the things that are mysteries to us now:

 “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from
glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. (2 Co 3:18)

There are some things that God’s people will not completely understand until we stand in His presence in His Kingdom. The Apostle Paul said:

“For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.” (1 Co 13:12)

One of the greatest mysteries is God’s love for mankind. Man, God’s own creation, has rejected Him and rebelled and has attempted to dethrone God from His rightful role as God and King of His creation. Yet, He still loves us… not just in word but in deed. 

God’s love is the only explanation of why Jesus would abandon His throne and His Kingdom. God did not humiliate Jesus like He did when He cast Satan out of heaven. The scripture informs us how our redemption was provided:

“Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” (Php 2:6-8)

Jesus is known as the great teacher. A great teacher is not one who can motivate you to take action with instruction but a great teacher is one who has, himself, demonstrated how it is done. Jesus has shown us how we should live out our lives in humility. We are told in Proverbs:

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Pro 22:6)

The work of the Spirit of God is teaching us about humility; the same humility Jesus demonstrated to us. As newborn followers of Jesus, there are many lessons we will not fully understand that we are being “trained up” for when we are old.

Many of the teachings of the bible are not easy to understand when we are first born-again. When we obey the teachings, because we trust our Heavenly Father, we become more mature in the Lord and we will not only obey but we will often understand the teachings because we have been living the teachings out in our lives.

The natural man does not understand the power of humility. We cannot see the power of the lowliness of heart. Jesus said:

 “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Mat 11:29)

The natural condition of people is not a life of humility but often a proudful and boastful lifestyle. Jesus, for His followers, has by example taught and is teaching us to be humble.

Are you seeking to follow the Saviour’s example? Are you willing to humble yourself before both God and men? If you follow the example set for you by Jesus; you will be able to follow Jesus’ command to “take my yoke upon you.”
