Do You Need Corn? – Gospel.PUB

Do You Need Corn?

“There is corn in Egypt.” Genesis 42:2

God is a God of provision and providence. Corn seems like such a simple thing, but the words, “there is corn in Egypt,” were words of hope for the family of Jacob. Corn grain that could not only feed the family as it sustained them, it would also keep God’s promise to Abraham.

God made a promise to Abraham:

“I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.” (Gen 12:2)

Abraham was sustained and the promise was passed to his son whom God sustained and was passed to his son. Now it was the words “there is corn in Egypt” that offered hope not just to keep this family alive but for God’s promise to Abraham to be kept.

God extends His work beyond just one time and place in history, His will is woven into the lives of His people from the promise of the Saviour given to Adam and Eve and through the saving grace of the Ark for Noah, now the promise of “corn.” God was and is superintending His creation. The “corn” would keep alive the promise not just to Abraham to become the father of a great nation but the pathway that God had created that the Saviour of the fallen creation would arrive.

God has not just created you but He has a plan for your life. To be aware of God’s plan for your life often happens when you are in great need. Jacob and his family were facing great need that would lead to suffering and death. It was this need that would open the womb of Egypt that would give birth to the nation of Israel that would be birthed some four hundred and thirty years in the future.

God has a planned purpose for your life. Sometimes God’s will for your life is only visible when you have no other place to seek help other than the “corn” found in the time of need. God’s word indeed is powerful and according to the scripture:

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isa 55:11)

When you hear God’s words spoken by others or read them in the scripture, God’s power is released into your life. Discovering God’s purpose in your life requires faith and to find faith you must hear God’s word:

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Rom 10:17)

Faith is the source of all truth and understanding when it comes to the things of God. Faith is the power that releases God’s blessing and provision of the “corn” you need. We are warned in God’s word that if we operate outside faith we cannot do anything to release God’s blessings:

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Heb 11:6)

Are you struggling with problems in your life? Do you need “corn” and do not know where to find it? God’s word is a storehouse of hope for you. If you will in faith engage God’s word, God will reveal His purpose and plan for your life.

Remember this, God keeps His promises. If you will call on Him and “diligently seek Him”  in faith God will make Himself known to you in your times of distress.

Seek God believing that He is “a rewarder” and you will not only be pleasing to God but God will sustain His purpose and plan for your life.
